So you want to go camping

Posted by HorseGal on July 10, 2016 at 6:25 PM

We've all seen those epic shots of the Pacific Northwest that make you want to pack-up and live in the woods forever and ever, but let's talk logistical for a second. The outdoor industry can be deceptive. You don't have to be an expert to head-out into the woods, not even close. I'm here to tell you you've got this!

A few things to keep in mind.

1. There will be bugs.

-Citronella products are your best friend. You can purchase sunscreen that has bug repellant, two for one!

-If the mosquitoes love your blood- they're a big fan of mine- plan ahead with some hydrocortisone cream. It's your best friend because, let's be real, it's hard not to scratch those pesky welts

2. Remember to pack matches

-I'm not even joking. I've forgotten this simple, but important item

- On this same topic, firewood if you plan to have a fire. This means not only dry logs, but fire starters like smaller twigs and newspaper.

3.Pajamas

-I forget this step. Every. Single. Time.

4. Sleeping on the ground can be hard, but it's bearable with a few simple steps

-Sleeping pads are heavenly. You don't need something fancy

-Place your tent on an even patch of ground. Avoid rocks, twigs, inclines/declines

-Invest in an air mattress, or borrow one from your parents

- If you're on a budget you can put several towels or blankets down. I've even used couch cushions

5. No matter how hot it is during the day, it can be chilly at night

-Pack for hot and cold weather. A fleece and warm socks go a long way

6. Hydration!

-Pack lots of water. More than you think. You're going to be exploring and excited. Trust me, have plenty of aqua.
